How does a counsellor’s account work?
If you’d like to discuss your portfolio with your counsellor, you can show it to them. But what steps need to be taken to make this happen?
A counsellor’s account is one of the types of accounts on the website intended for professionals (along with employer accounts and awarding body representative accounts). This enables the person supporting the My Portfolio user to view their competences, evidence, and development plans.
However, in order for a counsellor to see and comment on anything, they must set up an account and the My Portfolio user must share their files with them.
Setting up a counsellor’s account
To set up a counsellor’s account, you must select the appropriate option (“Counsellor’s account”) during registration.
Remember – such an account is not intended for creating your own portfolio, but only for communication; the counsellor and the user can discuss the submitted content using the “messages” tab.
When someone shares their portfolio with you, you will receive an email notification.
Sharing the portfolio with a counsellor
To share the contents of your portfolio with your counsellor, you need to follow a few steps:
1. Log in to your account,
2. Prepare a portfolio – a collection of competences and evidence that you want to show the counsellor. To do so:
- go to the “files and CV” tab,
- click the “add folder” button (image below),
- indicate which competences or evidence you want to add to this folder. (Remember that you can set up any number of “folders” and add the same competences and evidence to them.)
3. Go to the “account settings” tab,
4. Click on the button “share your account with a counsellor / employer / awarding body representative”,
5. Enter the counsellor’s email address and click the “share” button.
A message will be sent to your counsellor’s email address informing them that you’ve shared your portfolio. From this moment on, you can collaborate on its contents using the “Messages” tab.
Remember – the person you share information with can view it on the My Portfolio website but cannot directly interfere with the content. You can also stop sharing it at any time.
